If you bought lamb this weekend at Heinen's supermarkets, it's likely that you got a taste of Ohio lamb. The stores are featuring product from a Knox county farmers in a first run of future sales. The season moves to an Idaho lamb next, but as of September, the local meat will be back in full force, according to buyer Eric Besselman. Mary Holmes and her Innovative Farmers of Ohio helped link the farm and the store, which will mean more help to the Ohio economy and shorter transportation to market. Look for "local" signs in the lamb case. Besselman says the best supply can still be found at the Mayfield Heights store.
