SAINT CLOUD, Minn. – Just BARE® Chicken announces its second-annual Just 5 Cooking Challenge that's built on the brand's philosophy that "less is really more—in cooking and in life." This focus on minimal cooking and living is central to Just BARE, a brand of all-natural, American Humane Certified® chicken that offers no antibiotics, no added hormones, no animal byproducts, and no unwanted additives.
Consisting of two phases, the Just BARE Just 5 Cooking Challenge first requires entrants to submit recipes using chicken and no more than four other ingredients (salt, pepper and a fat source(s) for cooking do not count against the total) for a chance to win $500 and a spot in the brand's first-ever Just BARE digital cookbook. In the contest's second phase, consumers will be encouraged to vote for their favorite finalist Just 5 recipe. All those voting will be entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win an iPad loaded with the contest's top 20 finalist recipes and other cool culinary content.
Timing of the contest's two phases is as follows:
- Recipe Entry Phase: August 28 – October 9, 2012
- Online Voting & Secondary Sweeps Phase: November 5 – December 5, 2012
Any home cook ready to take on the challenge may submit their original 5-ingredient recipe at JustBareChicken.com by October 9, 2012.
First, recipes will be screened by a panel of culinary experts, that includes Just BARE head culinary enthusiast, Lisa Golden Schroeder, on the contents of the written recipe, including its creativity, general appeal, apparent ease of preparation, appropriate number of and use of ingredients, and clarity of instructions. Approximately 30 semi-finalist recipes will then be kitchen-tested by the experts and assigned a score from 1-20 points for appearance, taste and overall ease of preparation. The 20 recipes with the highest scores will advance to online voting on the Just BARE Facebook page. Determined by the fans, the grand prize winner will be announced around December 5, 2012 and be featured with his/her recipe in a 1/2-page, full-color ad in the March issue of Whole Living magazine.
"Cooking with a 'less is more' philosophy is about more than a recipe with just five ingredients. It combines creative and convenient high-quality products, minimal use of appliances and simple tricks and steps to save time. It's about stripping down the cooking process to simplify our lives, so we can concentrate on what's important – natural, wholesome food," concluded Julie Berling, director of brand advocacy for Just BARE.
