Why are America’s goats going on the lam?
For the second time in two years, a goat has escaped captivity and hit the streets. The most recent case involves a goat that found its way to freedom from a farm and slaughterhouse in Tewksbury, Mass., and has since been spotted roaming the nearby city of Lowell. In the four days since its escape, the goat has eluded capture by police and even earned itself a Twitter account.
As Denis Oliveira, the animal’s former keeper, told the local paper: “That goat is crazy.”
Last year, a goat dubbed Sky created similar havoc when it was seen along New Jersey’s Pulaski Skyway. Like the Lowell goat, Sky was believed to have escaped from a slaughterhouse. The story had a happy ending, however: The goat was eventually caught by police and brought to a rescue farm.
