HAWARDEN, Iowa — Blaming falling livestock supplies in the region, Superior Farms last week cut 32 jobs at its lamb slaughter and processing plant in Hawarden.
The move dealt another economic blow to the Northwest Iowa community of about 2,400. Earlier last month, Staples Promotional Products closed its headwear manufacturing plant in Hawarden, eliminating 20 jobs.
“Those are kind of a couple hard knocks in a community our size, when you lose 40 to 50 jobs back to back,” city administrator Gary Tucker said.
