The Farmer John meat processing plant in southwest Fresno closed Friday, laying off 11 employees.
The company has been a fixture at 2316 S. Elm Ave., just south of Reverend Chester Riggins Avenue. It opened in Fresno in 1955.
Company officials released a statement Friday saying: "As our supply chain has grown throughout California, a distribution center in Fresno was no longer logistically feasible. All employees at the facility were offered severance packages or full-time opportunities at our other locations in the state."
