Angelo State University Selected To Host Reciprocal Meat Conference

The American Meat Science Association (AMSA) has announced that Angelo State University has been chosen to host AMSA’s 69th annual Reciprocal Meat Conference (RMC) in June of 2016.

Each year, the RMC serves as the annual meeting for AMSA. It is conducted on or near university campuses and features an interactive program that is tailored to give attendees an inspiring educational experience. More than 1,000 attendees are expected at the 2016 RMC at Angelo State, including meat science professionals in academia, government and industry, as well as undergraduate and graduate students in meat and food science fields at colleges and universities throughout the U.S.

According to the AMSA Board of Directors, “Angelo State University is an exceptional university that offers a wide variety of opportunities and unique attractions to make RMC their very own.”

“This amazing opportunity is a direct reflection of the top-notch students and facilities we have at ASU,” said Dr. Kirk Braden, associate professor of animal science. “It is certainly an exciting time as our educational and competitive programs grow and are recognized for their achievements at such an early stage. Meat and food science professionals and students from all over the country will get a firsthand look at why ASU has earned national recognition for its meat and food science and other agriculture programs. We are proud and ultimately humbled that AMSA has chosen Angelo State to host its annual conference.”

Earlier this year, 15 ASU agriculture students attended the 67th annual RMC hosted by the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis. ASU’s Product Development Team won the Taste of RMC contest for the first time and also won the T-Shirt Design Contest. The ASU Meat Science Quiz Bowl Team reached the semi-finals, and graduate student Troy Tarpley of Fort Stockton took third place in the Meat Science Research Poster Contest.

“All in all, it was a great conference,” Braden said. “Our students and alumni in the industry are certainly invigorated.”

ASU students attending the RMC were Tarpley, Katie Austin of Bronte, Hunter Brietzke of Marion, Gustavo Faz of Piedras Negras, Mexico, Kameron Haecker of New Braunfels, Clay Kelley of Ballinger, Sondra Lohse of San Marcos, William Meyer of Cibolo, Matthew Murdoch of Marion, Bryce Patton of Silverton, Savina Robles of San Antonio, Shanequa Sanders of Killeen, Michael Schwartz of Wall, Bonnie Wallace of Lampasas and Lexus Weinheimer of Stonewall.
