CANBY, Ore. – Terra Nova Nurseries (www.terranovanurseries.com), a global leader in plant breeding, recently participated in the 2026 Shanghai Garden Show with a custom display garden featuring some of the company’s best-of-breeding perennial varieties. The company’s display also received the “Excellent Display” award following the event.
The Shanghai Garden Show, hosted by Shanghai Flower & Horticulture (Group) Co., Ltd at the Shanghai Flower Port, was held April 15 to May 15 and featured 34 themed gardens from international plant breeders, landscaping companies, independent designers and university students.
Terra Nova designed its display garden to demonstrate mixed container plantings for small spaces. The exhibit showcased perennial varieties suitable for woodland and half-shaded environments, offering home gardeners with limited space practical inspiration. Genera displayed in Terra Nova’s garden included: acanthus, brunnera, coreopsis, corydalis, dicentra, heuchera, penstemon, pulmonaria and thalictrum.
“The Shanghai Garden Show brought together many of the people and organizations shaping the future of gardening in China,” said Kevin Chen, Terra Nova Nurseries’ Asia representative. “As a company that has been active in the Chinese market for more than a decade, we were proud to share our perennial breeding expertise through a garden display that demonstrated practical and inspiring planting solutions for today’s gardeners.”
Shanghai, a city of approximately 25 million residents, served as an appropriate setting for a show focused on the role of gardens in urban life. Themes such as garden therapy, tranquility, social connection and children’s aesthetic education were prominent throughout the event.
Another notable feature of the show was its “garden economy,” with ticketed admission, retail marketplaces and additional attractions incorporated into the event experience. Organizers described the concept as a “Garden+” business model that combines horticultural displays with consumer engagement and commerce.
