The ornamental or flowering kales typically have feather-type leaves as compared to the rounded leaves of ornamental cabbage. The deeply serrated leaf edges add unique foliage texture to the cool-season landscape.
The popular Peacock series features various leaf colors in red and white. The red foliage turns darker red in cooler weather, and the white coloration in the bicolored green-and-white-foliaged Peacock White becomes more dominant under colder temperatures.
You can plant kale anytime from early November through January. Plants prefer full sun.
