Tulips with white and red petals are blooming right across Canada, but in a fraction of cases, the flowers developed to mark the county's 150th birthday are coming up orange, or yellow and red, or not at all.
However, the Canada 150 tulips, as they are called, are adding colour here and there in Toronto. The tulips with white blooms and red flames were bred by Dutch growers to resemble the Canadian flag.
Home Hardware Stores Limited, which sold four million bulbs from September to mid-October last year, said it has received nearly 180 complaints about the tulips in Canada.
