OFA Announces Florist Design Contest Winners

Several florists were recently named winners of the OFA Short Course Florist Design Contest. The contest, sponsored by Teleflora®, featured three categories: The “Compliment” of Color, The “Romance” of Color,” and The “Comfort” of Color. The contest was held in conjunction with the florist design sessions and workshops during the OFA Short Course, July 9-12.
The Designer of the Year was Daniel Stober of Chicago Flower & Garden in Chicago, Illinois. The first runner-up was Jody Brown-Spivey, AIFD, CF of Expressions Floral Design Studio in Gahanna, Ohio; second runner-up was Dee Conrad of Petals & Leaves in Powell, Ohio.
The winners in each category were:
Category 1: The “Compliment” of Color
1st Place – Dee Conrad, Petals & Leaves, Powell, Ohio
2nd Place – Judy Mellon, Delaware, Ohio
3rd Place – Jody Brown-Spivey, AIFD, Expressions Floral Design Studio, Gahanna, Ohio
Category 2: The “Romance” of Color
1st Place – Daniel Stober, Chicago Flower & Garden, Chicago, Illinois
2nd Place – Dee Conrad, Petals & Leaves, Powell, Ohio
3rd Place – Juan Tracy, Flowers at the Falls, Idaho Falls, Idaho
Category 3: The “Comfort of Color”
1st Place – Juan Tracy, Flowers at the Fall, Idaho Falls, Idaho
2nd Place – Judy Mellon, Delaware, Ohio
3rd Place – Amanda Smith, Petals & Leaves, Powell, Ohio
OFA Short Course attendees had the opportunity to vote for their favorite design. The People’s Choice Award was presented to Juan Tracy of Flowers at the Falls in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Lorraine Miheli of Floral Garden Florist in Mansfield, Ohio..
