Taipei – Tainan District Agricultural Research and Extension Station have unveiled a newly cultivated dancing orchid, which features rich scents and red blooms.
The new variety, described as a "fragrant beauty," has about 56 flowers on each plant, according to the Tainan station.
Director of the station, Wang Shih-hsien, said the blooms have a butterfly-shaped lip and dark red and white petals.
The tropical dancing orchids are a very popular cut-flower export, Wang noted. Around 23 million dancing orchids are shipped to global markets annually, with an export value of NT$400 million (US$13.3 million), he said.
