Bountiful Gardens in Cordova, owned by the Thompson family, grows produce and flowers in their 14 greenhouses. On Tuesday they began planting poinsettias that will be ready around the holiday season.
Patrick Frye runs the greenhouses. He makes sure things are happening on schedule, and deals with wholesale and retail business. During Tuesday’s normal workday, he oversaw employees filling pots with soil while he ‘pinched’ poinsettias.
Samantha Johnson and Susan Cassidy explained how they have to fill and place about 2,900 pots with dirt on long tables that stretch from one end of the greenhouse to the other.
“We’re trying to put them close together,” said Johnson. “It saves room. Plus, the plants grow up straight that way.”
