The prize presentation took place within the framework of the official opening ceremony of the IPM. From the "Bedding and Balcony Plants" category, the Primula acaulis F1 Zebra Blue from Rudy Raes Bloemzaden, Belgium, was distinguished as an "IPM Innovation 2011". The breeding method as an F1 hybrid constitutes the peculiarity of this innovation. It stands out due to the exceptional texture and colour of the petals. The blue-and-white zebra marking promises to be a genuine eye-catcher amongst the spring-flowering plants.
In the opinion of the experts, the most attractive "Blossoming House Plant" (the most innovations were submitted here, i.e. 24) and thus worthy of bearing the "IPM Innovation 2011" title is the Kalanchoe interspecific hybrid Queen® Wildflowers®'Charming Purple Bouquet', exhibited at IPM by Knud Jepsen, Denmark. This variety illustrates a new development in the breeding once again towards more originality of the Kalanchoe. A totally new look with half-filled blossoms, a loose structure and weather resistance extend its utilisation spectrum to the field of bedding and balcony plants as well.
Mandevilla x Diamantina®'Citrine' 403, exhibited by New Plants Motril, Spain, came out on top amongst the "Tub Plants" and can now be marketed as an "IPM Innovation 2011". The bright yellow blossom is an absolute breeding innovation in the colour spectrum of the Mandevilla. The first impression gives rise to the supposition that the willingness to blossom fulfils the wishes of the consumer too. The exceptional luminosity will enrich tubs, terraces and balconies.
