GLENCOE, Ill. – Spend the vernal equinox (March 20-21) surrounded by flowers at
the Illinois Orchid Society’s “Cascades of Orchids” spring show and sale at the
Chicago Botanic Garden. Orchid vendors from throughout the United States and as
far south as Ecuador and Columbia vie for “best of class” ribbons in 22
different orchid classes. Vendors and orchid society members display rare
species and cultivated hybrids in colorful floor and tabletop exhibitions based
on the show’s theme “Cascades of Orchids.”
“Visitors love this show,” said Luis Torres, Illinois Orchid Society Board
President. “It reminds us all that spring is just around the corner. The show
attracts both amateurs who may own just one orchid and aficionados who grow
hundreds in backyard greenhouses.”
Orchids will be on display throughout the Regenstein Center. More than 20 orchid
vendors will be selling orchids, including exotic species and hybrids not
readily available in the retail market. Supplies, equipment, clothing, orchid
jewelry, Asian clay orchids and the society’s custom bark mix will also be for
sale. The Illinois Orchid Society will provide repotting services for $5.
The Society will provide an orchid sales area and repotting services for $5.
