This report is short and sweet, just like Gardenia ‘Buttons’, which we featured at the Gulf State Trade Show in Florida. As far as I can tell, there’s no other variety like it. ‘Buttons’ has a compact habit, but still makes a good 3-gallon … and it’s not a slow grower! It also has terrific branching for lots of gorgeous white blooms that stand above the foliage, so it’s a great pot crop.
And about those blooms, ‘Buttons’ flowers earlier and longer than any other Gardenia I know of. The only drawback I see? I was hoping it would be hardy to Zone 7 – but it might work in the lower half. Overall, my growers at the show told me they’re really happy with ‘Buttons’ and would definitely recommend it!
