FAIRBANKS — As the peonies start to bloom across Alaska, a new flower export business continues to unfold.
The peony season in Alaska starts in July and continues through September. When the flowers are in bloom here, they are almost impossible to find elsewhere in the world.
With an air freight transportation system that puts Alaska within flying distance of most of the major population centers of the world, there is the potential for a cash crop that could put Alaska agriculture on the map.
A lot of people get married in July, August and September and would pay a pretty penny to have peonies at the altar.
