Flower Council Of Holland Spotlight For December: The Amaryllis

The Flower Council of Holland places the spotlight on a different flower each month. In December that is the Amaryllis, a stately flower which brings warmth in the dark winter months, but also makes an elegant entrance in the spring. They are lovely in a (mixed) bouquet but also as a single stem in a vase.

If there is an R in the month

The Amaryllis grows naturally from a bulb and originates from South America and the Caribbean islands. Many people associate the Amaryllis with Christmas and dark winter days. This isn’t so strange, considering that it is at this time that the flower is most popular. The flower is however, also available in months with an R in them: from September to April. It is available in red, white, white and green, salmon-orange, salmon, lilac-purple, orange, dark red, pink and even stripes.
