The packaging building and offices of the Dan Schantz greenhouse farm in Lower Milford Township were gutted Tuesday night in a fire that spread so quickly three alarms were sounded for extra firefighters.
No one was injured in the fire reported at 8:30 p.m. at the sprawling greenhouse operation at Spinnerstown Road and Plover Lane. As flames lit up the sky five miles south of Emmaus, fire companies from throughout the area were dispatched.
The fire fight was punctuated by explosions from within the shipping and receiving area of the farm's main building. Firefighters said they believed the fire was setting off propane tanks on fork-lift trucks inside the structure.
