SEVILLE — Mother's Day cut flower bouquets may have a bit more greenery this year, bringing more "green" for Volusia County's fern growers who just ended their peak selling period.
"Flower supplies right now are down because of bad weather in South America and I'm reading that designers are using more green. That will help us," said David Register, executive vice president for Fern Trust Inc., a Seville-based co-op that handles harvesting, sales and shipping of ferns and cut foliage for 13 area growers.
"Seems like everyone has had a good holiday too, especially after the past couple of years that have been so down," Register said. "We're not back to where we were before the financial crisis, but we are gaining back some ground.
