Christmas tree farms were singing with saws and buzzing with people this week as the holiday buying season kicked off in Pennsylvania.

The most wonderful time of the year followed a less-than-ideal summer for tree grower John Constable.

Dry conditions prevailed for much of the season, which has caused problems with needle drop in Douglas firs. “Our tree shaker will be used overtime this year,” said Constable, of Marsh Creek Tree Farm in Elverson.
