Cities and counties looking for new jobs often pine for high-tech, clean industry with great potential for growth. For Augusta County, one answer is "Bloomaker" a unique company that's growing in more ways than one.
Bloomaker has roots in the Netherlands but its owners say they brought their business to the Shenandoah Valley because it gives them easy access to markets in the northeast. Their products are making their way into major retail chains, and aim to give anyone a green thumb.
A nearly $3-million industrial greenhouse has just gone into full operation near Stuarts Draft. It cultivates, packages and ships specially designed vases with daffodils, hyacinths and tulips all grown without soil. Bloomaker's high-tech operation is capable of moving at least 40,000 plants a week.
