Ball Ornamentals: Cultivate'14 A Success
July 21, 2014 | 1 min to read
What an excellent week of connecting with green industry professionals! Many watched and wondered what new management of the show (AmericanHort, the resulting merger of ANLA and OFA) might bring. Energy was high, traffic was steady, and the buzz surrounding hydrangea L.A. Dreamin’ was palpable. For us, the show was a tremendous success! Yes, whether it was the segment highlighting L.A. Dreamin’ as a Medal of Excellence Reader’s Choice Award nominee at the Greenhouse Grower magazine’s Evening of Excellence event or the massive 15-gallon blooming L.A. Dreamin’ in the booth with beautiful pink and blue flowers on the same plant, the atmosphere was electric.
Perhaps the most telling was the wide range of people from nursery and greenhouse growers to students and volunteers who stopped at the booth to ask, “Is this a real plant?” or “Did you paint this plant?” As we hauled the plants into the convention center on Friday, one of the janitors stopped me to say, “Now those are some pretty flowers!”
Some of the other Ball Ornamentals favorites that received high praise from growers who visited us this week were Hydrangeas Sweet Summer and Fire & Ice, Sambucus Black Tower, Sorbaria Sem, and our Physocarpus Gumdrop Series. Before the end of the show, we were out of catalogs, and that was no ordinary preparation mistake.
