Astilbe 'Look At Me' (Arendsii Group) has been declared the best new plant at Plantarium 2013. The plant was entered by Compass Plants BV in collaboration with Mts Lucassen, both from Hillegom. The jury felt that the plant was innovative as it combined an unusually compact growth habit, short and well-filled panicles in a fresh pink colour and an abundance of flowers.
Four gold awards
As well as the best new plant, four other plants were also awarded gold medals by the jury. Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Qufu’ (MAGICAL GREENFIRE) by Kolster BV from Boskoop received the following comments from the jury: unique colouring of the sterile flowers, profusion of flowers and outstanding presentation. Hydrangea paniculata ‘Jane’ (LITTLE LIME) by Valkplant BV and Pieter Zwijnenburg jr. from Boskoop was regarded as innovative by the jury because of its compact growth habit in combination with the flower shape, strong branches and broad applicability in both public green spaces and private gardens.
Liriodendron tulipifera ‘Edward Gursztyn’ by Boomkwekerij Marcel van Nijnatten from Zundert was praised by the jury for its innovative crown shape for the Liriodendron family and outstanding presentation. Finally, Rosa ‘Relax0009’ (OUR LAST SUMMER) by Roses Forever ApS, Sabro from Denmark received the following comments from the jury: flowers at a young age for a climbing rose, and the flowers have a fantastic fragrance.
