Tickets for the WNC Cheese Trail’s first annual Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest are on sale starting today through the Festival website www.mountaincheesefest.com. Adult tickets (ages 13+) will be $12.00 and children under 13 are free. The fest will take place on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Highland Brewing Company in Asheville NC from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. This fun filled festival will include hands-on activities for kids and adults, panel discussions, workshops, vendors and cheesemakers. Any unsold tickets will be available for purchase at the door the day of the festival for $15.
The Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest advances the mission of the WNC Cheese Trail, a 501 c6 non-profit organization that promotes the production and sale of local cheese, facilitates consumer education and encourages tourism to the region. The festival will highlight WNC Cheese Trail cheesemakers and members with numerous opportunities for festival goers to learn more about, taste and purchase local, artisan cheeses.
The family-friendly festival will also include a wide variety of producers from the industry such as bread and crackers, meats, pickles and jams. Festival attendees can sample and purchase cheeses, speak with cheesemakers, have an up close view of dairy animals and attend workshops and panel discussions on topics such as cheese making, cheese tasting and cooking demonstrations using local cheeses.
The WNC Cheese Trail will be organizing various fundraising activities leading up to the Festival including progressive dinners at Trail member farms and businesses as well as sponsorship drives for WNC businesses to take part in the festival. The WNC Cheese Trail was formed in 2012 by a small group of independent artisan cheesemakers with the intent of promoting the production and sale of WNC artisan cheeses, facilitating consumer education and encouraging tourism to the region to benefit local cheesemakers. The primary tool of the organization is the WNC Cheese Trail map that was designed and printed in 2013. The purpose of the map is to encourage locals and tourists to seek out member cheesemakers to buy handmade, traditionally crafted cheeses direct from the producer.
