A new demonstration farm coming to Brookfield, Vt., the first of its kind of the U.S., will show would-be farmers exactly what it takes to operate a goat dairy.

Founded by Vermont Creamery, the center, called Ayers Brook Goat Dairy, will also offer guidance to develop a budget for students pursuing careers in agriculture.

“We want to get agriculture students jazzed about goats,” says Allison Hooper, the creamery’s co-founder. “Traditional dairy families milking cows and goats are not generally considered serious by this community. We think that once the students work with the goats they will see that this is a viable and rewarding alternative to cow dairying.”
