U.S. marshals have seized an undisclosed amount of cheese products from Brunkow Cheese in Darlington because federal inspections earlier this year revealed evidence of rodent contamination.
The cheese factory, in its fourth generation of cheese making, remains open and is cooperating fully with authorities, said Joe Burns, a cheese maker and spokesman for Brunkow. The small company manufacturers, packs, labels and distributes several varieties of cheese, cold pack cheese and cheese spreads.
No product from the company has been recalled from stores.
"We have some product seized," Burns said Friday. "It's on hold and we're not allowed to move it. We stand by the safety of our product, but we also are cooperating fully with authorities."
