Rogue Creamery Wins Gold Medal At 2014 ACS Competition

Sacramento, CA – At the 30th Annual American Cheese Society Judging and Competition in Sacramento, Rogue Creamery captured the 1st Place Award in the Mixed Milk Cheddar Category for its Mount Mazama Cheddar Cheese .It is a unique blend of certified sustainable cow and goat’s milk. Rogue Creamery has been recognized with over 100 international and national awards for their cheeses. ACS is the largest cheese competition in North America, and is often referred to as the “Academy Awards of Cheese“.

Mount Mazama showcases the best of both worlds: a thick texture, the flavor of sweet cream and butter from the cows and caramel and nutty notes with a touch of tanginess from the goats. The discovery of small crystals throughout the slightly crumbly paste will provide yet another level of textural variation and pleasure for the palette. Aged over 1 year.

“We are grateful to the ACS judges for recognizing Mount Mazama with this great honor. This is a very timely recognition for one of our mixed milk  cheeses made with goat’s milk, as August is National Goat’s Cheese Month .We are thankful to our team, and our local  dairies”, said David Gremmels Cheesemaker and President of Rogue Creamery. Rogue Creamery won Best in Show @ the ACS Awards in both 2011 & 2009.  The creamery also made history in 2007 by becoming the first American exporter of raw milk cheese to the EU; their cheese is carried in Whole Foods Market, Neal’s Yard Dairy, London and Fromagerie Laurent Dubois, Paris.

Rogue Creamerywas founded in 1933. The Vella family from Sonoma, California acquired it from a co-op in Southern Oregon.  In the 1950s it began making some of the country’s best blue cheese. In 2002, Ig Vella selected Cary Bryant and David Gremmels as the new owners and they now produce a variety of award-winning blue and cheddar cheeses. They offer the only vertically integrated third party certified sustainable cheese in the U.S. Its local dairy, Rogue View, and creamery, Rogue Creamery, are both certified sustainable by Food Alliance and organic by Oregon Tilth. Rogue Creamery was the first registered B Company (company for public benefit) in the state of Oregon.
