Rogue Creamery is proud to join the 400 Oregon businesses including 24 in Southern Oregon that have signed the Oregon Business Climate Declaration. The OBCD states that there is a clear and present need for action on climate to protect our region’s natural assets, its vibrant communities and its growing economy. We business leaders of the Pacific Northwest endorse the Climate Declaration, because we support using energy efficiently, investing in cleaner fuels, advancing renewable energy, and reducing greenhouse gasses. As David Gremmels, President and Cheesemaker of Rogue Creamery says, “having a healthy environment is essential to the long term success of our business, which is why we’ve invested in renewable energy, alternative transportation options for our employees and so much more .Our customers love it ,and it’s been great for our operating budget. Regardless of politics, it’s time we come together to cut carbon pollution in Oregon”.
Gremmels currently serves on the Oregon Governor Brown’s Sustainability Board and Rogue Creamery has been ranked as one of Oregon’s 100 Best Green Companies 5 years in a row .In 2007 the creamery won the 2007 Governor’s Sustainability Tourism Award for its commitment to community and agri-tourism.
Today, Rogue Creamery offsets about 50% of its electrical use with its own photovoltaic system and 40% of its team members commute to work via alternative methods saving an average of 14,000 gallons of gas per year. “At Rogue Creamery everything we do in connection with the environment, landscape, atmosphere, community, animal husbandry, ingredients, practices and processes must be supported by three key words; Safe, Healthy and Optimistic. These are the three words Rogue Creamery has used for eight decades “, said David Gremmels.
The Rogue Creamery green program called the Nellie Green ® Program involves solar, recycling, waste reduction, purchasing, commuting, asset management, manufacturing processes and financing. Team members are incentivized for car- pooling, walking, using public transportation or commuting on bike or via electric or hybrid cars to help Rogue Creamery meet its sustainable metrics.
