Atlanta, GA – Now in its third year, the Refrigerated Foods Association’s Deli Salad Month will include a charitable component whereby members will pledge to attack hunger by partnering with local food banks across the country.  During the month of July, member companies will commit to donating both monetarily and with in-kind donations as a collective effort to combat hunger in their own communities.  Hands-on volunteer work will also be encouraged.

The Refrigerated Foods Association (RFA), as an organization comprised of food manufacturers from throughout North America, is in a unique position to challenge member companies to make a difference for the one in seven Americans who struggle to get enough food each day.  This charitable effort is being spearheaded by RFA’s Membership Committee Chair, Wendie DiMatteo Holsinger of ASK Foods in Palmyra, PA.  Wendie states, “the RFA Board has been seeking a way to give back to our customers and communities for some time now.  Working with local food banks to combat hunger is a natural and crucial endeavor for our organization, and I’m proud to be a part of this effort.”

Member companies will be asked to participate in this month-long undertaking, and estimated total contributions will be determined and made public in an effort to grow the program in future years.  In the words of Anne Frank, “Hunger is not a problem. It is an obscenity. How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”  The Refrigerated Foods Association’s members are humbly working towards making a difference where they can, in their own communities with what they have to give.
