On the occasion of the closing of the light show "Rendez-vous Bundesplatz" on Sunday 30 November, the Migros cheese specialist Mifroma held a world record attempt for the longest raclette grill heated exclusively with tea lights. Between 17:30 and 22:00, approximately 25,000 portions of Raccard raclette were melted on an over 100-m-long grill in Bärenplatz in Bern and given to visitors for free.
The 101.25-meter-long raclette grill in Bärenplatz held a total of 860 raclette pans. It was heated entirely without electricity using over 2600 tea lights. At exactly 17:30, the head of Mifroma, Gilles Oberson, launched the world record attempt with the first raclette. Until 22:00 about 25,000 portions of Raccard raclette cheese were given out to about 20,000 visitors.
A world record attempt in this form was unique – whether it now makes it into the famed Guinness Book of World Records will be determined in the coming weeks. The raclette grill was measured and notarized beforehand and the whole event registered. Various certifications will now be submitted to Guinness in order to be officially entered as the longest raclette grill in the world. In any case, the event was a success and an enjoyable attraction. This was seen on the faces of thousands of happy visitors leaving the Raccard Challenge after an excellent raclette. Gilles Oberson: "The Raccard Challenge was the high point of the 50th anniversary year of the founding of Mifroma. We wanted to celebrate this anniversary together with the people – with our customers. I am happy and proud to have achieved this with such a great event."
From us. From here.
The world record attempt by Mifroma is part of a multi-year Migros program "From us. From here." It highlights the care with which Migros produces the bulk of its widely varied assortment with its own companies in Switzerland. For example, the iconic detergent Handy, the classic Ice Tea and the favorite Swiss raclette cheese Raccard are available exclusively in Migros stores. That makes Migros unique.
