Point Reyes, CA – Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company of Marin County took home two ribbons at the American Cheese Society’s Annual Judging & Competition in Montreal, Quebec on Friday, August 5th. Point Reyes Toma earned a 1st Place Ribbon in the American Originals Category and the company’s Fresh Mozzarella received a 2nd Place Ribbon in the Mozzarella Category.
The American Cheese Society celebrated its 28th anniversary this year in Montreal where the 2011 Judging & Competition saw a record number of entries: 1,676 cheeses and cultured milk products from 258 different companies in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
“Toma has only been on the market for a little over a year so to earn a Blue Ribbon at the ACS is incredibly rewarding ,” said Bob Giacomini, owner of Point Reyes Farmstead. “Already a hit with customers, now we know the judges love it too.” Giacomini, together with his wife and four daughters, founded Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company on their family dairy in 2000. Original Blue™ Cheese is the flagship product of the company and is also a recent big winner. In July Original Blue won the coveted Gold sofie Award for Best Cheese or Dairy Product from the National Association for Specialty Food Trade (NASFT). The Point Reyes Farmstead product line is available nationally at independent cheese shops and specialty chains as well as at www.pointreyescheese.com.
The American Cheese Society is an active, not for profit trade organization that encourages the understanding, appreciation and promotion of farmstead and natural specialty cheeses produced in the Americas and Canada.
