PA Department Of Agriculture: Discard Goat Cheese From Apple Tree Goat Dairy

Harrisburg, PA – As a precaution, consumers who purchased goat-milk chevre cheeses from Apple Tree Goat Dairy, with use by dates of July 27, August 1, August 10 and August 14, should discard the cheese product or contact the manufacturer. The cheeses (Plain Chevre, Honey Pecan & Date Chevre, Horseradish & Cheddar Chevre, Garlic Herb Chevre, and French Herb Chevre) are labeled with the Apple Tree Goat Dairy name and address on the packaging.

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture today said that vat pasteurizer used by the dairy to manufacture the “pasteurized” goat chevre cheese from July 1, 2015 through July 12, 2015 did not meet the requirements for pasteurization because of the lack of a chart recorder. To date, no illnesses have been reported.

Recording charts have now been added to the vat pasteurizer and it is now approved to manufacture pasteurized goat cheeses.

Apple Tree Goat Dairy is located at 129 N. Nenix Road, Richfield, PA 17086 in Juniata County. The dairy sells their cheeses at three farmers markets in Philadelphia. The cheese is also distributed throughout Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Virginia.
