Business partners Sharon Tomaselli and Bob Sweitzer have elevated cheese — what some may consider a simple food staple — to artisanal, award-winning levels with their Cooperstown Cheese Company, located at 107 Oxbow Road in Milford.
Tomaselli and Sweitzer, former paper-makers in New Jersey, began their business journey after plans to purchase the paper mill in which they once worked fell through. Tomaselli explained that they had been tossing around ideas when, in 2007 more than apples and cheese, she said, “I thought — cheese! and we knew it was a good idea.”
From there began a search for a facility. Upon discovering their Milford space, though unfurnished, Tomaselli said, “We knew the infrastructure was there,” and she and Sweitzer set about outfitting the space to make cheese.
