Lindsey Vonn is the most successful female alpine skier in the history of the sport and is on her way to becoming the most successful ski racer ever.
Six weeks after she turned 20, Vonn produced her first World Cup victory in Lake Louise, Alberta. She has since captured a world-record 76 World Cup wins en route to 20 FIS Alpine World Cup titles, including four overall crystal globes, seven downhill titles, and two World Championship titles. In 2016, Vonn broke the all-time Downhill record, claiming the season Downhill title outright, on top of achieving the sport’s Super-G record.
2012 was also an incredible, record setting year. She set a new overall mark for women’s Alpine skiing, securing her fourth overall title. She also won titles in Downhill, Super-G and Super Combined. In 2010, Vonn became the only American woman to have captured downhill gold at the Olympics and also added a bronze in Super-G.
After rehabilitating two back-to-back knee injuries, Vonn returned to competition in 2014. In 2015 she broke the 35-year-old record of 62 World Cup victories. During her 2014/15 comeback season Vonn won an astounding eight world cup races and two World Cup Titles. Her documentary, The Climb, chronicling her recovery, aired on NBC January 25th, 2015.
In 2015, Vonn launched the Lindsey Vonn Foundation, a non-profit with the goal of empowering young girls to grow through experiences that build self-esteem and positive self-image. Vonn’s legacy will extend far beyond her remarkable skiing career.
