8:30 am – 8:55 am – Phil Lempert – Focus on Allergens: A Matter of Trust
Shoppers buy food in places they trust. Do they trust supermarket deli, bakery, and prepared foods departments? We asked Phil Lempert, known as The Supermarket Guru, to help us find out. With his help, we asked the people who are most concerned about food allergies – people who have them – questions that get to the heart of trustability.
In this session, Lempert will share answers to serious and complex questions including whether statements such as “allergy-free” inspire confidence or cause concern; how satisfied customers are when they ask specific allergy and ingredient questions of supermarket staff; and whether or not people with food allergies would prefer to shop at a place known to have staff specially trained through a food allergy certification program. IDDBA attendees will also have a chance to visit with Lempert in the Show & Sell Workshop on the expo floor.
For more than 25 years, Lempert, an expert analyst on consumer behavior, marketing trends, new products and the changing retail landscape, has identified and explained impending trends to consumers and some of the most prestigious companies worldwide. He is a distinguished author and speaker who alerts customers and business leaders to impending corporate and consumer trends, and empowers them to make educated purchasing and marketing decisions.

People entertain for many reasons whether it’s a holiday gathering, Super Bowl party, or small dinner party with a few friends. She will share ideas for how to merchandise, market and innovate to drive sales for every occasion.

10:00 am – 11:00 am – Simon Sinek – Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Come Together and Others Don’t
Imagine a world where almost everyone wakes up inspired to go to work, feels trusted and valued during the day, then returns home feeling fulfilled. According to Simon Sinek, this is not a crazy, idealized notion.
In this session, Sinek will discuss how, when the conditions in organizations are right, we naturally trust each other and cooperate. But when leaders neglect the environment in which their people must work, politics, silos, cynicism and self-interest prevail, making it more difficult for people to work together. He’ll explain what it takes to create an environment in which people work as they were designed – together and how it is under these conditions we are at our natural best.
A renowned leadership expert and author of Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action and Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don’t, Sinek is best known for popularizing the concept of Why and for the talk he gave on the subject that became the third most watched talk of all time on TED.com. Sinek is also an adjunct staff member of the RAND Corporation, one of the most highly regarded think tanks in the world.
