Dairy is a family affair for Bob Laffranchi. He grew up in Ferndale on a beef and dairy ranch and now runs the Loleta Cheese Factory.
“All segments of my family at some time … were involved in the dairy business in the Eel River Valley. It’s in my blood,” he said.
Construction and renovations of the factory began in July 1982. Laffranchi and his wife, Carol, opened the factory in November of that year and since then have been selling cheeses to a broader and broader market. Now Loleta Cheese can be found in stores from as far north as the Oregon border to San Francisco and from the coast to Redding, Laffranchi said.
“For a regional area we have a lot of things going on,” he said.
