Thorp, Wis. – Holland's Family Cheese rakes in more awards at the 2012 Wisconsin State Fair Cheese & Butter Contest.
Marieke Gouda Foenegreek, one of the company's most sought after raw milk, farmstead Goudas scored a 99.05 in the Flavored Semi-Soft Cheese category. Carefully aged on Dutch pine planks, this rich, creamy creation boasts notes of maple syrup and toasted nuts. Additionally, in the Open Class – Semi-Soft Cheese category, Marieke Gouda Aged scored a 99.7 and Marieke Gouda Belegen scored a 99.3, earning both recognition and awards.
Dairy manufacturers from all over Wisconsin submitted nearly 300 entries for the 2012 Wisconsin State Fair Cheese & Butter Contest, which took place June 21 at Wisconsin State Fair Park. The contest featured 26 classes, including four new classes – Aged Cheddar, Smoked Cheese, Flavored Goat Cheese and Latin American Cheese.
The 2012 Grand Master Cheesemaker, along with this year's other winning cheesemakers, will be recognized during the Blue Ribbon Cheese & Butter Auction on Friday, August 10 at Wisconsin State Fair Park.
