Boursin Gournay cheese is a fresh, tangy, unaged cow's milk cheese from Normandy, France. According to Boursin's website, in the past, a dish of similar but plain fresh cheese was presented at the table alongside a dish of fresh herbs. Diners would mix the combination that pleased them.
An innovative, already-mixed version was created in 1957 by Francois Boursin. He named it Gournay cheese, after the town where he was born. Today, it is marketed as Boursin brand Gournay cheese.
This sort of soft, highly flavored cheese is wonderful spread on warm bread as an accompaniment to any meal. It also can be tossed with warm or cold pasta, added to sauces or spread on sandwiches.
