Hy-Vee’s 19-month-old grocery store in downtown Des Moines is being remodeled to add more self-checkout stations and change to its prepared food stations.
The West Des Moines-based grocer is shutting down the Long Island Deli, Cocina Mexicana food counters and the smoothie bar to make way for a new Mia Pizza counter, where customers can get a customized brick-fire-oven pizza cooked in six minutes.
Prepared food is still a big portion of the store. The Chinese, sushi and hibachi food counters will remain, as will the salad bar, the company said.
