ASHEVILLE – Three local companies have netted Good Food Awards for their products which, served together, would make a smart appetizer platter.
Among the winners from Western North Carolina was Picante Salami from American Pig, a local maker of small-batch artisan charcuterie. Looking Glass Creamery in Fairview won for its Bear Wallow cheese, an Alpine-style raw milk cheese with a wine-washed rind. Barnardsville's Pick and Preserve won for its Peach-North Carolina Apple-Brandy Butter.
According to a press release from the Good Food Awards organizers, this year's awards distinguished value-added food and beverage products in 15 categories. More than 2,000 entries were considered from products including beer, charcuterie, coffee, preserves and more. New this year is an elixirs category, which brings into the fold of the competition bitters, shrubs and syrups.
