Syracuse's Byrne Dairy Plans To Build Yogurt Plant

Syracuse-based Byrne Dairy is the latest dairy company to invest in the yogurt boom.

Byrne announced last Wednesday that it is seeking an option on a 127-acre business park in Cortland to build a yogurt plant with a tourism aspect to it. The plan depends on winning site plan approval, local incentives and state funding assistance. If those hurdles are met, the plant could start construction in mid-2013.

"Our vision is to create a destination for generations to experience by carefully planning the site to have visitor access for tourism and entertainment as well as training and educational opportunities," said Byrne Dairy President and CEO Carl Byrne in a prepared statement. "We want to build an environment that inspires and encourages learning along with attractions that utilize the site’s beautiful scenery and available land."
