Three New Jersey residents have accused Unilever of violating the state Consumer Fraud Act by falsely claiming its Breyers ice cream is “all natural.”
The three accusers filed suit in U.S. District Court in Newark demanding that the household products giant, which has its U.S. headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, stop using the description.
The suit, filed on Nov. 4 by Kelli Catanese, Ross Corriette and James Waldron, seeks class action status.
The suit claims that the Breyers Smooth and Dreamy ½ Fat All Natural Ice Cream contains alkalized cocoa power – a “chemically altered cocoa powder which contains potassium carbonate, sodium carbonate or other alkaline substances.”
