Some Wisconsin Dollar Stores Charging Sales Tax On Milk

Thrifty shoppers looking to save on groceries at dollar stores may want to take a close look at their receipts.

Some Dollar Tree stores are charging sales tax on milk, a violation of state law.

Public Investigator received a tip about dollar stores charging tax on food and spot-checked a few around Milwaukee.

Two Dollar Tree locations – one near N. 76th St. and W. Capitol Drive and the other near N. 85th St. and Brown Deer Road – charged sales tax on a carton of 2% milk.

Public Investigator also bought groceries, including milk at Family Dollar and Dollar General on W. Brown Deer Road. Neither charged sales tax.
