SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Abe Buttimer gets paid quite well doing what he loves. For 27 years, Buttimer and his wife Elaine have operated Abelaine Farms in scenic New Glasgow.
For the pair who grew up on dairy farms on the mainland, the life – and the livelihood – of raising and milking cows has always been in their blood.
Milking 35 Holstein cows today is a passion that translates into prosperity.
“It’s very stable,’’ Buttimer says of dairy farming.
“If you are responsible and do a real good job, you can make a real good living. It takes a lot to run a dairy farm.’’
