Oakhurst Dairy Celebrates 90th Anniversary With Oakhurst Moments Contest

PORTLAND, MAINE — As part of its year-long 90th anniversary celebration, Oakhurst Dairy has launched the Oakhurst Moments Contest with a lifetime supply of Oakhurst products and $1,000 to the winner’s favorite charity as the grand prize. To enter the contest, interested individuals are asked to share their Oakhurst Moments via a photo, video or brief written story at the company’s Facebook page by clicking on the “Enter to Win” tab. These moments can represent a wide range of stories and memories. Examples include enjoying a favorite product at a special time of day, a memory of home milk delivery or a first meeting with Oakie, the company’s mascot.

In addition to the grand prize, Oakhurst will randomly select four individuals entered into the contest to receive $100 each in product.

“For 90 years, Oakhurst has been providing quality dairy products, been active as a charitable leader in our communities and an advocate for the environment and healthy kids,” said Bill Bennett, Oakhurst Dairy. “During that time we’ve accumulated a lot of stories. However, as we considered how we wanted to celebrate our 90th anniversary, we wanted to focus our attention on our customers and their stories. We’re excited to see what people share with us.”

The contest begins on April 9, 2012, and will run through June 30, 2012, with the grand prize winner and four randomly selected individuals announced in July. Entries will be reviewed weekly by an internal committee and eligible entries narrowed to 10 finalists for review by a judging panel consisting of Bennett family members, Bob Clark, Chief Professional Officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine, and local Comedian Karen Morgan. The judging panel will select the grand prize winner from the 10 finalists. Entries will be judged on adherence to the contest rules and quality and originality of the submission and the creativity in which the submission captures a special memory or moment with Oakhurst. There is a limit of one entry per person.

Bennett continued: “Part of our 90-year history has been to listen to our customers and work hard to meet their needs. Social media is a new communication channel for us and allows Oakhurst Dairy to have a unique, real time two-way conversation with our customers. As we use this new communication channel, we thought it would be fun to engage with our customers on Facebook via this contest and reward them for all their years of support.”

To raise awareness and present new opportunities for individuals to create and share Oakhurst Moments, the dairy will participate in several events throughout the three-month contest period. Event goers will be able to pose for pictures with Oakie, the Oakhurst Acorn and in the Oakhurst Moments photo booth with company memorabilia and products. Young children will be able to let their imagination soar and pretend to be a child-size Oakie or a cow dressed as a milkman.
