WESTBY – Nordic Creamery, Wisconsin’s newest farmstead specialty dairy plant, will celebrate its grand opening with an open house for the public on August 19 and 20.
A special ceremony with Agriculture Secretary Ben Brancel and creamery owners will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19. Tours will be offered both Friday and Saturday, with samples of the creamery’s butter, cheese and ice cream available. Interview and photo opportunities with Nordic Creamery owners Al and Sarah Bekkum will also be available to the media.
Nordic Creamery, located at S2244 Langaard Lane, Westby, Wis., is where the Bekkums will craft ice cream and European-style traditional and seasonal butters made in small batches from the milk of their own cows. The creamery also features a farmstead retail store offering its products, along with a vast array of Wisconsin foods, as well as Nordic Creamery cheeses made nearby at a local dairy.
Nordic Creamery is the first farmstead operation built in Wisconsin to specifically craft specialty butter. It joins a growing number of farmstead creameries who have built facilities in Wisconsin in the last decade. Since 2004, a total of 43 new dairy plants have opened and another 92 have expanded.
