New Effort Planned To Lift Ban On Wisconsin Raw Milk Sales

Another attempt to legalize the sale of raw, unpasteurized milk to Wisconsin consumers is coming before the Legislature and could have the support of Gov. Scott Walker if it contains provisions to safeguard public health.

Tuesday, Sen. Glenn Grothman (R-West Bend) said he would introduce the legislation in the next few weeks.

"I am sure we are going to do something," Grothman said.

With little exception, state law prohibits the sale of raw milk to the public. Those who want the law changed say that fresh, unprocessed milk contains nutrients that are destroyed by pasteurization – and that consumers should be able to decide for themselves if they want it.
