Milk Plant Expected To Boost Growing Dairy Industry In Western Kansas

The dairy industry in Kansas, particularly in the western half of the state, has grown significantly over the past decade or so, and a $235 million dairy plant in Garden City’s future is expected to bolster the industry even more.

Earlier this month, the Garden City Commission approved a development agreement with Meadowlark Dairy Nutrition, LLC, a subsidiary of Dairy Farmers of America. Meadowlark plans to build a U.S.D.A. dairy dryer milk processing plant and related facilities on 156 acres on the south side of Garden City.

Meadowlark will lease and develop the property, located on the east side of U.S. Highway 83 between the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and the Arkansas River, on city-owned land near the Jameson Energy Center.
