Local Dairy Supply, Economic Incentives Drew Yogurt Maker To Batavia, NY

Economic incentives on the state, local and utilities levels are packaged for a South American company that makes specialty yogurt to locate a $15 million manufacturing plant in the town of Batavia.

Alpina Foods of Bogota, Colombia, will become the first tenant in the Genesee County Economic Development Center’s Genesee Valley Agri-Business Park, off Route 5 near the County Fairgrounds. The firm plans to build a 28,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and create 50 jobs.

Alpina’s plans were reported earlier this week by media in Colombia. The GCEDC confirmed the project on Friday.

Ground-breaking is hoped for by June or July. Construction could take up to a year, according to the agency.
