These days, east Greeley's Leprino Foods manufacturing plant does more for the city than produce a whole lot of cheese.
The cheese factory, which is closing in on finally finishing its plant with its construction of Phase 3, has impacted Greeley's economy, directly and indirectly, since it came to Greeley in 2010.
According to Upstate Colorado Economic Development CEO and president Richard Werner, numbers last year showed an impact of more than $1.6 billion from the Leprino project, as it relates to operations, employees, construction, visitors coming to see the plant at 1st Avenue and 13th Street, and more. That's a huge moneymaker to have in the area.
